As part of the People\u2019s Summit activities scheduled for the G8\/G20
\nSummits in Ontario, this open forum will explore the global financial &
\neconomic crisis and highlight Decent Work and the ILO Jobs Pact as the
\npillars of labour\u2019s response. Through the analysis and perspectives of
\nCanadian and international speakers, participants will better understand
\nhow we got here and how we can start to move forward.
\nMorning Panel:\u00a0 “The Economic Crisis: How we got there? Who Pays?”
\nThe morning session will examine the global financial & economic crisis
\nand its impact on workers and jobs in Canada: how it has affected our
\ncommunities and social programs (including pensions and employment
\ninsurance) and the effectiveness of measures put in place by the Harper
\ngovernment. We will also explore what this crisis has meant for working
\nwomen and men in Africa and the Americas, including its impact on
\neconomic and social development, and on labour markets and social
\nprotection.<\/p>\n

Afternoon Panel:\u00a0 “Labour’s Response: Decent Work and the ILO Jobs
\nPact”
\nThe afternoon session will explore the labour movement\u2019s response,
\nwhich is anchored on the Decent Work Agenda and the ILO Global Jobs
\nPact, from both a Canadian and an international perspective. This
\nsession will also examine the links between workplaces and the fight for
\nuniversal access to HIV\/AIDS prevention and treatment. We will also
\nexplore decent work as a tool to fight poverty and build international
\nsolidarity, green jobs, and strategies to build a more just society and
\nquality employment as a key element of the recovery package being
\nnegotiated by G20 governments.<\/p>\n
