Through the analysis and perspectives of<br \/>\nCanadian and international speakers, participants will better understand<br \/>\nhow we got here and how we can start to move forward.<br \/>\nMorning Panel:\u00a0 &#8220;The Economic Crisis: How we got there? Who Pays?&#8221;<br \/>\nThe morning session will examine the global financial &amp; economic crisis<br \/>\nand its impact on workers and jobs in Canada: how it has affected our<br \/>\ncommunities and social programs (including pensions and employment<br \/>\ninsurance) and the effectiveness of measures put in place by the Harper<br \/>\ngovernment. We will also explore what this crisis has meant for working<br \/>\nwomen and men in Africa and the Americas, including its impact on<br \/>\neconomic and social development, and on labour markets and social<br \/>\nprotection.<\/p>\n<p>\u25cfVictor Baez, General Secretary, Trade Union Confederation of the<br \/>\nAmericas (TUCA), Brazil<br \/>\n\u25cfAustin Muneku, General Secretary, Southern Africa Trade Union<br \/>\nCoordinating Council (SATUCC), Zambia<br \/>\n\u25cfArmine Yalnizyan,\u00a0 Senior Economist, Canadian Centre for Policy<br \/>\nAlternatives (CCPA)<\/p>\n<p>Afternoon Panel:\u00a0 &#8220;Labour&#8217;s Response: Decent Work and the ILO Jobs<br \/>\nPact&#8221;<br \/>\nThe afternoon session will explore the labour movement\u2019s response,<br \/>\nwhich is anchored on the Decent Work Agenda and the ILO Global Jobs<br \/>\nPact, from both a Canadian and an international perspective. This<br \/>\nsession will also examine the links between workplaces and the fight for<br \/>\nuniversal access to HIV\/AIDS prevention and treatment.
